About
In this thought-provoking and emotionally resonant lecture, Malaysian ethnomusicologist and cultural activist Prof Dr Tan Sooi Beng will reflect on her decades of work in cultural preservation, the revitalization of performing arts, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. From Chinese opera in the streets of Penang to oral histories in rural communities, Prof Tan advocates for a research approach rooted in active participation—where scholarship is not merely objective documentation, but a warm, engaged response to living traditions.
