About

This event is a defiant shoutout to every young Malaysian filmmaker who thinks they need a million-dollar budget or fancy gear to start. Nope. This theme is all about celebrating the raw, resourceful, and absolutely brilliant short films born from pure hustle and the mentality of: "Have what? Do what? Jerrr..." (Translation: Whatever we have, let's just make it work!)

We're showcasing the films that prove the only thing holding you back is, well, you. Come support the creators who are lighting up the screen with their sheer ingenuity.

What’s with the name, tho?

Okay, let us break down the vibe for you!

"Have What Do, What Jerrr..." is the core energy of this entire episode. It's the ultimate Malaysian spirit of resourcefulness and can-do attitude. We're challenging filmmakers (and maybe you, too) to stop overthinking and start creating. Got a phone? Make a film. Got a borrowed car? Use it as a set. This theme celebrates the brilliant work that comes out when you just work with what you have. The films in this line-up are the living, breathing products of this mentality.

And why “EP3”? Coz this is just the continuation of something epic! We're not slowing down. This is the third chapter in the story of a movement that is repping our rojak culture and proving that Malaysian film is a force.

What films we are screening?

Rojak

Rojak is a subtly experimental short film that delves into the inner world of a 14-year-old mixed-race girl named Rojak. Born to parents of differing faiths, a typical family get-together for talking about how dry the Christmas turkey was and what they will be wearing for Raya next year. Rojak lives at the crossroads of culture, religion, and identity. Her life unfolds in a religious country that, while multicultural itself, is laced with expectations and contradictions. The short takes viewers through a fragmented narrative that mirrors Rojak's inner turmoil. Through imagery and fleeting moments of quiet rebellion, we see Rojak wrestle with questions of belonging, faith, and self-expression. Blurring the line between reality and imagination that offers a glimpse at the struggles of growing up in a world that demands labels, but leaves little room for those who embody more than one.

Hujan di Tengah Hari / Midday Rain

A quiet balance between presence and departure. Hujan di Tengah Hari is a visual piece on impermanence and the cyclical nature of life.

Alone

“Alone” is an experimental short film that captures the creator’s most solitary chapter through minimalistic visuals and restrained storytelling. Using cold tones, long static shots, and a deliberately quiet pace, the film portrays a young individual navigating the tension between creation, self-doubt, and the desire to be understood. Rather than following a conventional narrative, Alone focuses on mood — the heavy stillness of late-night editing, the weight of silence, and the fragile determination to keep moving forward. It documents not only a moment of isolation, but the beginning of a personal artistic journey. From loneliness to clarity, Alone reflects how creativity becomes a refuge and a mirror, guiding the filmmaker toward strength and self-definition.

Zaki's First Film

Zaki is a cinema fan who really hates AI. He is producing his first film, but something happened before he could finish it. Can Zaki's film still be completed?

What to Expect?

Can I expect to feel super inspired?

100% YES! You’ll be vibing to short films by young Malaysian filmmakers who didn't wait for permission or a big budget. These are the product of pure ingenuity—showing you exactly what can be achieved when you ditch the excuses and embrace the limits. You'll leave feeling like you need to go shoot something right now!

Can I actually talk to the filmmakers?

DUH, OF COURSE! After the screenings, we’re keeping it 100 with chill Q&A seshes. Ask them anything—especially how they pulled it off with zero budget and max creativity. It’s your chance to learn the true Malaysian hustle behind the scenes and vibe with the next big names in our cinema.

Will I meet other film nerds like me?

YASSS, QUEEN/KING! This is THE spot to link up with fellow film enthusiasts, industry OGs, and creators who stan storytelling as much as you do. Who knows? You might just find your next collab partner or ride-or-die creative buddy for your own Jerrr... project.

Is this event actually making a difference?

IT'S THE WHOLE POINT! By coming, you’re supporting a grassroots movement to uplift young Malaysian filmmakers and help build a resource hub for the future. We're not just screening films; we're building the infrastructure for the next generation. Let's make Malaysia proud on the global film stage!

This isn’t just another screening—it’s a space to connect, get inspired, and celebrate the genius of resourcefulness. So, let’s stop waiting for the perfect moment and start making magic! You in or what?
