About

Support local young filmakers and the future of Malaysian cinema!

This time, our films travelled a little further.

For EP6, we’re screening with our friends from Sibu, 不看电影 WatchFilmsNot — which, yes, literally means Don’t Watch Films.

They brought us three short films under one theme: Light & Shadow.

One is looking for a better future.

One is looking for a son.

One is looking back at someone who once stayed.

::

No homework before coming. No film knowledge required.

Just come watch with us, and if something stays in your head afterwards, stay and talk about it too.

Lights off when the films begin.Lights on when it’s time to sembang.

See you in the room :)

A Better Place 《留学生》by Ben Oui

Chun and Mei come to Taiwan from Vietnam with hopes of furthering their education, only to discover that they have fallen victim to a scam exploiting their desire to study abroad.

Still hoping for a better opportunity and future, Chun attempts to transfer schools — but despite his efforts, things do not turn out as he hoped.

A Misfit Tiger 《马来亚虎》by Bennial Soo

Malaysian father Beng Soon travels to Taiwan to investigate the disappearance of his son, Kah Choon.

As he searches for him, Beng Soon gradually realises how little he truly understands his son — while discovering the ways Kah Choon has changed.

Before I Fell Out of Love by Firdaus Shah

Before I Fell Out of Love follows filmmaker Firdaus Shah as he reflects on a connection sparked by meeting a young woman from Sarawak.

Through moments of care, inspiration and presence, the film looks back at how someone can shape a chapter of our lives in unexpected ways — even when they don't stay.
