About

Fragments of Tuah is a documentary theatre work set to original songs and music, that revisits, dissects and reimagines the enduring figure of Hang Tuah - the 15th-century warrior whose myth and memory continue to echo across time in modern Malaysia.

Having toured as one of the opening performances for Kyoto Experiment 2025, the one man play researched by Mark Teh, Faiq Syazwan Kuhiri, Syamsul Azhar and Wong Tay Sy, looks at the different facets and phases of the legendary 15th-century figure via a layered collage of perspectives and materials-drawn from archival texts, schoolbooks, songs, state slogans, memories and history.

This second staging in KL once again invites the audience into a space of reflection where the fragments of Tuah are pieced together not to restore a whole, but to explore the gaps, contradictions and questions that linger. Joining this staging are multimedia designer Bryan Chang, musicians/performers OJ Law and Shariman Shuhaime, and stage manager Azmanzaki Amirolzakri. The Fragments of Tuah project was originally produced by June Tan and Hoe Hui Ting.

About the artists:

Faiq Syazwan Kuhiri is a performer, musician, digital producer and member of the Malaysian arts collective Five Arts Centre. He has performed in many Five Arts projects over the past decade, including Something I Wrote, 2-minute solos - Art Meets Politics, Baling, Version 2020, A Notional History, Oppy & Professor Communitas, and MortalMan: Two Monologues, as well as in Lee Ren Xin’s B.E.D. series.

Faiq creates his own original music with the rock band Terrer. The band's critically-acclaimed EP Kaum Lelaki is available on all major music streaming platforms as well as on CD.

OJ Law is a musician, songwriter and music producer, who has independently recorded and released five albums since starting in 2006. His 2020 album All Filter was named one of NME’s Best South-East Asian Albums of the year, and the single Reissues was highlighted as a Hidden Gem of the year by Apple Music 1’s Matt Wilkinson.

Shariman Shuhaime (Man) is a seasoned sound engineer and producer with deep roots in the Malaysian music scene. As one-fourth of The Fatalis and one-fifth of Terrer, Man brings a unique blend of creativity, precision and raw energy to every project he touches. With years of experience both on stage and behind the mixing console, he has developed a finely trained ear for detail and balance.

Beyond live performances, Man has played a crucial role in shaping the sound of numerous tracks and albums under his own imprint. His expertise in mixing and mastering has helped elevate the work of many independent artists, and his reputation continues to grow among musicians and creatives seeking authentic, high-quality production. Whether in the studio or on tour, Man remains committed to pushing sonic boundaries while staying true to the heart of the music.
