About

The Foundry is the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre’s premier workshop that offers the company’s signature casting experience. Visitors get to cast using a selection of moulds, the latest ones being Made in Malaysia, inspired by local flora, fauna and familiar cultural forms.

Forming part of the curated experience that encompasses a tour of the factory and a glance at the gold and silversmith ateliers, The Foundry offers an experience that enables visitors to create keepsakes, and at the same time learn about pewter by doing.

Pewter is heritage material, typically aligned with traditional production techniques and rich manufacturing narratives. To cast within this environment at the Foundry is to deepen the appreciation of pewtersmithing.

Each session will be supervised by a staff member who will brief the visitor on techniques in casting, health and safety, and the types of moulds to use. Priced at RM180 per person, each session at The Foundry allows participants to choose two designs, create their own pewter pieces, and take home the finished creations. Beyond the usual souvenir, the casting of the moulds grounds the visitors’ experience in something uniquely personal and distinctively Malaysian. It also gives locals a fresh, fun way of appreciating their everyday objects.
