About the conductor
Garry is a master Sape' artiste whose transcendent performances bridge traditional and contemporary musical realms. Through this ancient Borneo lute, he creates captivating soundscapes that both enchant and soothe his audiences. Born and raised in Miri, Sarawak, to a Kenyah father and an Iban mother, Garry discovered his passion for music early in life. His journey with the Sape’ began after completing his Bachelor's Degree in Music Composition from MARA University of Technology (UiTM), when a deep curiosity about his Kenyah heritage inspired him to master this traditional instrument. Today, Garry not only shares this unique sound with global audiences but also uses music as a medium for self-expression and teaching.
