Inspired by true events, Tears Under The Rising Sun offers a journey into wartime history, revealing the lived experiences of local communities under the Japanese Occupation. This original production by Krate Creative Space brings forward the untold narratives and enduring resilience of those who survived the conflict.
Supported by The Ministry of Arts & Culture Malaysia and JKKN Melaka, told through original songs and traditional instrumentation, the production draws on Peranakan heritage and Melaka's wartime history to bring an underrepresented chapter of Malaysian history to the stage — honouring the resilience of local communities during the Japanese Occupation and preserving Peranakan cultural memory for a new generation of audiences.

Based in Melaka and established in 2016, Krate Creative Space is a theatre production company specialising in interactive and immersive performances that highlight cultural elements.
