Butterfly Lovers – The Musical reimagines one of Chinese’s most enduring folk legends as a sweeping contemporary stage spectacle. Set in ancient China, it follows Zhu Yingtai, a defiant young woman who disguises herself as a man to pursue education, and Liang Shanbo, the scholarly companion who becomes her soulmate. Bound by filial duty and societal constraints, their tragic earthly love culminates in a poetic transformation that has captivated local and foreign audiences since 2006. Dama Asia’s 20th-anniversary revival blends traditional Eastern melodies with Broadway-calibre orchestrations, bringing fresh emotional resonance to this timeless tale of love and defiance.
