Set against the vibrant streets of late-1970s Kuala Lumpur, 3 Days in Chow Kit Road is an original Malaysian dance theatre production about love, belonging, prejudice and the search for home.

Over three unforgettable days, the lives of Owen, a young delivery boy, and Jasmine, a dressmaking apprentice, become intertwined with the people who inhabit the markets, shops and hidden nightlife of Chow Kit Road. As a gentle romance begins to grow, an unexpected tragedy sets off a chain of events that will test love, loyalty and the bonds of an entire community.

From bustling morning markets and neighbourhood celebrations to neon-lit nights and moments of danger, audiences are drawn into a richly imagined Kuala Lumpur where joy, humour, romance, fear and heartbreak exist side by side.

Created and choreographed by Kenny Shim, 3 Days in Chow Kit Road brings together 40 dancers, live musicians and an original score in a cinematic theatrical experience, where choreography, live music, immersive set design and striking period costumes come together to recreate the many faces of Chow Kit, from its bustling streets and neighbourhood warmth to its darker, neon-lit nightlife.

Unlike a traditional dance performance, the production places story and character at its heart, using movement as its primary language. It is designed for both seasoned theatre-goers and audiences discovering dance theatre for the first time, a Malaysian story told without relying on words.

At its heart, 3 Days in Chow Kit Road looks beyond society's assumptions to the people behind them: their dreams, mistakes, sacrifices, resilience and desire to belong.

Yayasan Chow Kit joins the production as Community Partner, extending the journey beyond the stage through community awareness, meaningful arts engagement and opportunities to connect audiences with the work being done for children and young people in Chow Kit.

The production is conceived as a film drama brought to life on stage, charged with tension, romance, humour, ensemble spectacle and emotionally powerful moments. Themes of nightlife, violence and sexuality will be expressed symbolically and with restraint through choreography, music, costume, lighting and stage composition, without exploitation or excessive display.

Through love, sacrifice and loss, 3 Days in Chow Kit Road explores the lives hidden behind society’s assumptions and asks a timeless question:

Is home simply a place we leave behind, or is it something we continue to search for, find in the people we love, and build together along the way?
