About
Production Management 101 is an introductory course designed for aspiring arts administrators, theatre practitioners, students, fresh graduates, and working professionals who are interested in understanding how performing arts productions are managed behind the scenes.
Conducted by Ian Chow, this course provides participants with a comprehensive overview of the roles and responsibilities of a Production Manager and the essential skills required to successfully coordinate a production from conception to completion.
Participants will gain practical knowledge of the performing arts ecosystem, theatre terminology, production planning, budgeting, documentation, and industry procedures. Through guided discussions, case studies, and hands-on exercises, participants will develop a clearer understanding of the operational and administrative processes that support a successful production.

This course is suitable for:
- Current Performing Arts Diploma or Degree students
- Fresh graduates from any field
- Young working professionals seeking to upskill
- Theatre practitioners who are new to the industry
Participants must attend all classes to be eligible for a Certificate of Completion. Failure to meet the attendance requirement may result in the certificate being withheld.

Facilitator
Ian is currently attached to The Actors Studio (Malaysia) and The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) as its Group General Manager. He is also the Company Director of the Young Choral Academy as well as Board Member of The Actors Studio Foundation.
Since his foray into the arts in 2002, he has been involved in more than 100 local productions in various management and creative roles. This includes sitting in the director’s chair of a multitude of music productions, his forte, some of which were nominated and have won various Malaysian BOH Cameronian Arts Awards since 2014.
He is currently the Co-Festival Director of the Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival (YSDAF), Malaysia’s largest free-for-all arts festival.
When time calls for it, Ian has and will continue to work with various government agencies to play a role as one of the voices for change in the country’s art policies and development.
