About
Kuala Lumpur moves fast. But look closely, and you’ll find nature still holding on: roots growing out of old buildings, plants pushing through cracks, birds and insects making a home in the busiest corners.
Alam dan Manusia is a slow walk led by Syuhada Sapno, a naturalist & trained ecologist who loves sharing how people and nature live side by side. The title comes from a primary school subject many of us remember, where humans and nature were learned together. This walk brings that idea back to life.
There are two walks to choose from. One goes through the city centre, from The Godown Arts Centre towards Bukit Nanas. The other goes through Kwong Tong Cemetery, where a resting place for the departed has become a quiet home for plants and animals.
Come with curiosity and an open mind. No nature knowledge needed. You’ll leave seeing the city a little differently.

What Can You Expect
- A gentle, easy-paced walk. This is about noticing, not exercising. We stop often to look, listen and talk.
- Fun discoveries along the way. Learn how plants and animals survive in concrete, noise and heat, and why some of the city’s most unexpected corners are full of life.
- Your stories matter too. You’re invited to share your own memories of trees, animals and places as we walk. There are no wrong answers.
- Hear about the stories behind Bukit Nanas and Kwong Tong Cemetery, two places that tell us a lot about how KL grew.
- Everyone gets a small booklet on urban biodiversity, made by Wild Saga Tree.
What to bring
- Closed shoes or sports shoes. We’ll be walking on uneven paths.
- A cap or hat to keep the sun off.
- A water bottle. Please bring your own and stay hydrated.
- An umbrella or raincoat in case of rain.
- Insect repellent and sunscreen are a good idea, especially near green areas.
- Comfortable outdoor clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dusty.
