About

THE LITTLE EXPLORER – Somewhere Only He Knows

Overview

Two Strangers. One Desert. Infinite Horizon.

Our Class 8 drama tells the story of a cartographer whose jeep breaks down in the desert, where he meets a mysterious young explorer. As the explorer shares stories from his travels and the unusual people he has met, the cartographer begins to see the world in a new way. This gentle and imaginative journey reminds us that the most important things in life are understood not with the eyes, but with the heart.

Age Recommendation

There is no formal age restriction, as we believe parents know their children best. Every young explorer is different, and we welcome all who are ready to join the adventure!

To keep the magic alive for everyone, we simply ask our little explorers to follow these guidelines:

· A Seat For Every Explorer: To comply with safety standards and ensure a clear view for all, lap-sitting is not permitted. Every little explorer must have their own seat.

· Quiet Wonder of the Desert: We kindly ask that children remain seated and quiet. In the vastness of the desert, even the smallest sound travels; staying quiet and seated helps everyone to view and hear the stories shared from the heart.

· A Brief Visit Outside: If a young explorer becomes restless, we appreciate you stepping out of the theatre momentarily. This helps maintain the heartfelt focus of our performers, and maintain the gentle atmosphere of magic and wonder for our fellow audience members.

Synopsis

Our Class 8 drama tells the story of a cartographer whose jeep breaks down in the middle of the desert. While he is trying to repair his vehicle, he meets a mysterious young explorer who seems to have come from a very distant place. During their time together, the young explorer shares stories of his journey through different lands and the unusual people he has met. Each encounter reveals something about the ways adults often think and live, sometimes forgetting what is truly important. Through these conversations, the cartographer begins to see the world differently. The young explorer also speaks about a special flower he left behind and the lessons he learned about friendship, care, and responsibility. This gentle and imaginative journey reminds us that the most important things in life are often the ones we cannot see, but can only understand with the heart.

About The Production

In Waldorf education, the Class 8 drama is an important experience that brings the class together in a shared artistic work at the end of their lower school journey. Through rehearsing and performing a play, students develop confidence, responsibility, cooperation, and creativity. Each student takes part in the collective effort, learning to support one another while bringing a story to life on stage. The drama we have chosen reflects these values. Through the journey of a cartographer and a young explorer, the story invites students to explore meaningful themes such as friendship, responsibility, and seeing the world with fresh eyes. This play is an adaptation inspired by The Little Prince, based on the English version translated by Katherine Woods, while creatively reshaped for our class performance.By attending, you support and celebrate this pivotal moment in our students’ journey, becoming part of the warmth and encouragement that nurtures their growth.

All proceeds from the production will go towards Class 8 Flamingo and school fundraising efforts.

The Cartographer’s Guide to the Journey:

1. Your Place on the Map - All tickets are fixed-seating with assigned seat numbers. Every explorer has their own special seat to watch the story unfold.

2. Your Unique Coordinates - After purchasing your tickets, you will receive an email confirmation with a unique QR code for each seat. Think of these as your personal coordinates for the adventure!

3. Prepare Your Travel (Ticketing) Documents - Every explorer needs their map! Please download your e-tickets in PDF format or take a screenshot of your tickets before arriving—sometimes the mobile signals in the desert (or the theatre foyer) can be a bit mysterious!

4. The Horizon Opens - The theatre doors will open 30 minutes before showtime. Arrive early to settle into your seat before the journey begins.

5. Keep the Desert Pristine - To keep our "desert" clean and the performers focused, no food or drinks are allowed inside the theatre.

6. Silence Your Gear - Please silence all digital devices. In the quiet of the desert, even a small chime can travel very far!

7. Darken the Sky - Kindly keep your mobile screens dark throughout the show. Even without sound, the glow of a screen can break the enchantment for the performers on stage and your fellow travellers.

8. Live in the Moment - To preserve the magic, no photography or recording is permitted during the show. Some things are best captured by the heart rather than a lens.

9. An Explorer’s Late Arrival - If you arrive late, we will do our best to admit you at an appropriate point during the performance so as not to disturb the journey already in progress.

10. Discover the Oasis - Do arrive early to view our special exhibition in the foyer! Learn more about the drama, our characters, and the secrets behind the scenes before you enter the theatre.

11. The Golden Rule of the Heart - Beyond these notes, there is really only one true rule: Respect the people around you, relax, and enjoy the adventure. We can't wait to see you there!
