About

Web of Deceit is a lively hand-puppet performance in English, inspired by a classic episode from Journey to the West. The story follows Tang Sanzang and his disciples—Monkey King (Sun Wukong), Piggy (Zhu Bajie), and Sandy (Sha Wujing)—on their adventurous journey. When the clever Spider Demon spins a magical web, Tang Sanzang and Piggy are trapped. Can Monkey King and Sandy devise a clever plan to rescue them? Full of humor, suspense, and playful twists, this performance brings the legendary tale to life through expressive hand puppetry and engaging dialogue.

Workshops
In addition to our performances, we offer interactive 1 hour hand puppet workshops. These sessions introduce participants to the fundamentals of puppetry, guiding them in basic manipulation techniques and encouraging them to explore, play, and express themselves through puppets in a fun and engaging environment.

About Paper Monkey Theatre
Paper Monkey Theatre was founded in April 2008 as a distinctive bilingual puppetry theatre dedicated to inspiring both children and adults. We are a creative and imaginative space where audiences are educated, enlightened, and entertained through the art of puppetry. Rooted in Asian values and culture, our work aims to nurture imagination, learning, and a strong sense of community, especially among young audiences.

Our team consists of like-minded artists and close friends who share a common passion for puppetry and storytelling. Together, we strive to create meaningful and memorable collective experiences, reminding audiences of the richness of Asian traditions, values, and cultural heritage through every performance.

Beyond our local work, Paper Monkey Theatre actively collaborates with international puppetry companies and puppeteers from around the world. Over the years, these collaborations have grown into lasting friendships, united by a shared love for puppetry and a commitment to bringing this timeless art form to diverse communities globally.
