Praised for his versatile artistry, commanding stage presence, and expressive musicality, Malaysian tenor Leonard Wong Zhi Duan is a rising voice in the classical and operatic scene both locally and internationally. He is a graduate of the Malaysian Institute of Art and is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Music with Honours at Universiti Putra Malaysia majoring in Vocal Performance under the tutelage of Malaysian tenor Mr. Solomon Chong.
After graduating from MIA, Leonard actively performed as a soloist and chorus member, appearing in major concerts, opera productions, and gala performances. He also had the opportunity to sing alongside international acclaimed artists such as Shila Amzah and Rimar Callista.
Leonard’s professional engagements include playing the role Tamino in “The Magic Flute”, Chen Yen in Malaysian opera “Solace of Papan”, Page in “Amahl and the Night Visitors”, and Chorus in “La Traviata” and “Carmen”.
Leonard also held successful solo recitals, including the Leonard Wong Vocal Recital in 2023, and Voices of Wisdom Concert in 2024.
Leonard’s recent achievements include:
- 2nd Runner Up at the 46th Malaysia National Vocal Competition 2025, Central Malaysia Region, Men’s Category
- 1st Runner Up and Lieder Prize (Best Chinese Art Song) at the 6th Chin Yong Vocal Competition 2025
- Regional Finalist at the Voices in Bloom International Singing Competition 2025 KL and JB Region
- Finalist in The 12th International Vocal Open Competition 2025
- Top 8 in the 2024 Gold Star International Music Competition
- 2nd Runner Up at the World Voice and Choral Competition in 2023
With a repertoire spanning opera, oratorio, and art song, Leonard continues to pursue artistic growth and aims to bring Malaysian classical vocal artistry to a broader international stage.
