Shakespeare Demystified: TWELFTH NIGHT

The Actors Studio and KL Shakespeare Players (KLSP), with the support of klpac, is set to stage another laugh-out-loud production in its celebrated Shakespeare Demystified series. This time, audiences can slide into Twelfth Night, a comedy with disguises, deception, and duplicity. All in the name of…love?

This 100-minute song-and-music-fìlled performance condenses the original three-hour play while retaining the most iconic scenes in Shakespeare’s original text. A narration in contemporary English seamlessly connects these scenes, providing crucial contexts and highlighting the play’s key themes.

Since 2011, the Shakespeare Demystified format has proven to be an engaging and accessible introduction to the Bard’s works for students and general audiences alike. It has been praised for making Shakespeare enjoyable and relatable, offering new insights even for those already familiar with his plays. Best of all, students do not need to prepare or study Twelfth Night before watching. By the end of the show, they will have gained a strong understanding of the plot, major characters, and themes, while having plenty of fun along the way. Many educators have remarked that a KLSP production “does half the work for them” teaching Shakespeare!

KLSP’s Shakespeare productions challenge the notion that theatre is boring or exclusive to an “artsy-fartsy” crowd. Instead, they showcase theatre as a fun, rewarding, and meaningful experience for young audiences. With a cast of only seven actors dynamically performing close to 15 roles, the show embraces creative storytelling with simple yet effective sets and props, allowing the language and humor of Twelfth Night to take center stage.
