About
Waste doesn’t disappear when we throw it away. It just moves somewhere else.
Saki Baki is a walk and hands-on workshop at Pasar Besar TTDI, a busy neighbourhood market where trade creates waste every day. Led by notime towaste, a waste-design lab, you’ll walk through the market and see how things are packed, labelled and thrown out. You’ll also learn what that waste is really worth, and what it costs us.
Along the way, you’ll collect discarded materials and see what’s actually being thrown away. Then you’ll head to a workshop space to clean, sort and turn your finds into a handmade object of your own.
You’ll also see how small, simple ideas can help cut waste and bring neighbours closer together, ideas anyone can try in their own community.
No experience needed. Just bring curiosity and a willingness to get your hands a little dirty.

What Can You Expect
Follow the journey of everyday waste, from how it’s made and packaged to how it’s cleared away. Collect discarded materials and do a simple check of what you find. You may be surprised by what gets thrown away. Clean, sort and turn your materials into something new, using simple design and upcycling methods. The tools are provided. You decide what to keep, how to clean it and how to put it together. Learn small things you can start with your family, neighbours and community.
What to Bring
- Closed shoes with good grip. Wet market floors can be slippery and dirty.
- Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Light, comfortable clothes work best.
- A water bottle. Please bring your own, and stay hydrated.
- A cap or hat and sunscreen for the walk outdoors.
- An umbrella or raincoat in case of rain.
- Gloves, if you have them, and a small towel or hand sanitiser.
- A tote bag or container to carry your handmade creation home.
- An open mind. Look at the market with an eye for opportunity and connection, and see how waste is tied to our daily lives.
About the Artist
notime towaste is a waste-design lab based in Sungai Buloh. It works to change how we think about and treat waste, bringing together materials, craft, research, education and communities to create better ways of using what we have.

- This programme takes place in and around a working wet market, with wet floors, crowds, strong smells and handling of discarded materials. We care about your safety, but participation is at your own risk, and the organiser and artist are not liable for unforeseeable incidents. Please follow the guide’s instructions, take care when handling materials, and wash your hands after the activity. If you have a medical condition, allergy or mobility limitation, please check with us before booking and let the guide know before the session starts.

- Each session needs at least 8 participants to go ahead and is limited to 20. If we don’t reach the minimum, we’ll let you know and offer a refund or another date.
- Please don’t litter. Only collect materials as guided, and help us keep the market clean.
- The organiser and its partners may take photos and videos during the programme for documentation and promotion, including social media. If you prefer not to appear, please tell the guide at the start of the session.
