LI JIANXI

Fifteen-year-old Li Jian Xi dreams of a life beyond the narrow boundaries of her immigrant family. She wants to learn, to see the world, to decide for herself who she will become.

But in a world where survival comes before dreams, tradition speaks louder than ambition, and a young girl is expected to know her place, Jian Xi's dreams seem almost impossible.

Caught between the expectations of her family and the possibilities she can imagine for herself, Jian Xi begins to question the life that has been laid out before her.

As her family struggles to build a future in a land far from the home they left behind, Jian Xi must decide how much of herself she is willing to sacrifice for the sake of family, tradition and belonging.
