Ignite Theatre is Kuala Lumpur’s home for young performers to play, create and perform. We provide high-quality theatre training and performance opportunities for young people, creating a space where confidence, creativity and individuality can thrive.

Our approach combines professional theatre practice with the freedom to explore. Young performers are encouraged to take creative risks, make bold choices and discover their own voice. Through acting, devising, text work and ensemble performance, students develop the skills needed to create exciting and truthful work for the stage.

Our programmes range from the playful first steps of Embers and the growing creativity of Sparks to the more ambitious performance work of Blaze. Alongside our weekly training, Ignite Theatre offers Trinity College London preparation, intensive programmes and opportunities to perform for public audiences.

Ignite Theatre is about more than putting on a show. We want young performers to leave our rehearsal rooms more confident, curious and courageous than when they entered, with the skills to collaborate, communicate and create.

Blaze Double Bill: The Wardrobe & YOU 2.0

Two plays. Two worlds. One company of young performers.

This November, Ignite Theatre’s Blaze company takes to the stage for a double bill of contemporary theatre exploring identity, belonging, friendship and what it means to grow up in a world that is constantly changing.

Sam Holcroft’s The Wardrobe takes us on a journey through British history, all from within the confines of a single wardrobe. Across different generations, young people step behind the same doors to hide, escape, play and confront the world outside. As history changes around them, the wardrobe remains, quietly holding their stories.

Alys Metcalf’s YOU 2.0 brings us firmly into the present, exploring friendship, identity and the pressure to become a different version of ourselves. Funny, honest and sharply observed, the play asks what happens when the desire to change begins to challenge who we really are.

Together, these two plays place young people at the centre of the story. Different characters. Different moments in time. Different pressures. But the same search for identity, connection and a place to belong.

Performed by Ignite Theatre’s Blaze company, aged 12–16, this double bill marks the culmination of a term of creating, rehearsing and refining work for a public audience.
