Peranakan Gouache Painting Workshop

In this workshop, we will explore beautiful Peranakan motifs through gouache painting. What is gouache, you may ask? Gouache is a water-based painting medium similar to watercolor, but with a more opaque finish and vibrant colour payoff. It is also a very forgiving medium, making it especially beginner-friendly and easy to enjoy, even if you have little to no painting experience.

Over the course of 4 hours, you will create and bring home a completed Peranakan-inspired painting featuring charming elements such as kebayas, Nyonya delicacies, Peranakan tiles, tiffin carriers, and all things colourful and nostalgic. It’s a relaxing and joyful painting session you would not want to miss.

Who should join this workshop?

This workshop is open to painting enthusiasts of all skill levels aged 18 and above. Whether you paint regularly or the last time you held a brush was back in Sekolah Rendah, you are more than welcome to join. Just bring your curiosity and eagerness to learn. Don't worry, all materials will be provided.

What’s included in this workshop?

No drawing experience is needed. Pre-prepared outline sketches and references will be provided, so you can focus fully on the painting process. All materials including gouache paints, paper, brushes, palettes, and other tools will be available for use during the class.

Faer is a gouache artist and an avid journaler who brings her love for creativity into every trip she takes. She often sketches street foods, collects little travel souvenirs, and documents memorable details in her journal. These elements come together to form story-filled pages that allow her to relive each journey. Her style of travel journaling encourages others to slow down, observe their surroundings, and enjoy the process of creating. She is excited to share this meaningful and enjoyable approach with the community.
