About
Coba-coba Tekat
(Learn & Try the Art of Tekat)
Ever wondered how the intricate beauty of tekat is created? Coba-coba Tekat invites you to step into the world of this treasured Malaysian heritage craft through a relaxed, hands-on introduction designed for complete beginners and the simply curious.
As part of the Inspired by Tekat exhibition programme, this special session offers participants the opportunity to learn about the history, techniques, and cultural significance of tekat before trying the craft firsthand. Known for its delicate raised embroidery and ornate gold and silver threadwork, tekat has long been celebrated as one of Malaysia’s most refined traditional textile arts.
Guided by artisan Nor Faizatol Fazleha Mohd Rasdi, participants will be introduced to the basic techniques and materials used in tekat-making in a welcoming and approachable environment. Selected artists from the Inspired by Tekat exhibition will also be present to share insights, assist participants, and reflect on how traditional craft continues to inspire contemporary creative practices today.
Whether you are an artist, student, creative enthusiast, or simply looking to experience something new, Coba-coba Tekat offers a rare opportunity to connect with a living heritage tradition in an intimate and engaging setting.
No prior experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to try.
