About
"Serunai Malam" karya Usman Awang merupakan kisah cinta antara Safiah dan Umar. Konflik bermula apabila berlakunya perbezaan pemikiran, latar belakang sosial, darjat, pendidikan dan cita-cita antara pasangan tersebut. Umar, bercita-cita dan berhasrat menjadi seorang guru yang mahu berbakti di tanah air tetapi ditentang oleh Safiah dan bapa Safiah yang mahukan kerjaya yang lebih tinggi dari seorang guru. Hal ini menyebabkan pertelingkahan dan perasaan resah antara pasangan itu. Apakah kesudahannya? Dapatkah umar menyumbang bakti sebagai seorang pendidik di tanah airnya? Atau mengikut kehendak tunangnya, Safiah?

"Serunai Malam" by Usman Awang is a love story between Safiah and Umar. The conflict begins when there are differences in thoughts, social background, status, education and ambitions between the couple. Umar aspires and desires to become a teacher who wants to serve his country but is apposed by Safiah and Safiah's father who wants a higher career that just only a teacher. This causes conflict and feelings of restlessness between a couple. What will be the outcome? Can Umar contribute to his country as an educator? Or follow the wishes of his fiancee?
