Whose Watershed? Youth Voices, Shared Values & the Future of the Klang River

The Klang River is more than a waterway. It is a place of movement, memory, recreation, learning, livelihood and connection. Yet people experience and value the river in different ways.

“Whose Watershed?” is a deliberative youth workshop that invites young people to explore their relationships with the Klang River and imagine what a more inclusive, vibrant and cared-for river could look like.

Through place-based activities, visual prompts, storytelling and facilitated group dialogue, participants will reflect on what they value about the river, what concerns them, and what they believe should be protected, improved or reimagined. Rather than asking only what young people think about the river, the workshop creates space for participants to listen to different perspectives, negotiate shared priorities and collectively articulate the values they want to see reflected in the river's future.

The workshop draws on the KL Urban Green-Blue Spaces Youth Empowerment Programme (KL UGBS) and the PESSVA shared-values approach, connecting youth participation, environmental stewardship and urban watershed futures.
