Sunda Talks: Rewinding Our Rivers and Roads

The two talks and one performance lecture to be conducted during an afternoon at Sunda Shelves covers the murky origins of the name "Kuala Lumpur", the retracing of the Old Damansara Road and ruminations on how ecologies are mapped onto literary imaginaries. 

1. Muddy Waters: In Search of of the Lost Sungai Lumpur. Teckwyn Lim and Peter Leong investigate the mysterious origins of the name 'Kuala Lumpur'. They identify a 'ghost river' running below the modern city's roads.

2. The Shape of a Watershed: Rivers Basins and Textual Spaces. William Tham reads from his forthcoming essay with New Naratif "...At the Watershed of History' , and ponders the degree to which ecologies are mapped onto literary imaginaries.

3. Retracing the Old Damansara Road. In a throwback to the first series of KRF talks @Sunda Shelves in 2025, Lam Seng Fatt retraces the entire stretch of the Old Damansara Road and discovers remnants that are still around in present-day Klang Valley.
