About

ONE TO MANY is a curated dance production featuring five original choreographic works that explore different dimensions of the dancing body through artistic practice and research. Each work offers a distinct perspective, yet together they create a shared dialogue on movement, identity, and embodied experience.

The title reflects the central concept of the production. “One” represents the uniqueness of each dancing body, shaped by personal experience, artistic inquiry, and individual expression. “Many” reflects the coming together of diverse movement vocabularies, artistic perspectives, and embodied experiences. Through this relationship between the individual and the collective, the production considers how the dancing body can be understood, experienced, and reimagined in multiple ways.

The production showcases five UM Master of Dance Performance Track students — Liu Yipeng, Liao Weiying, Zhu Yixuan, Shen Fan, and Wang Ruiyi — whose performances investigate distinct aspects of the dancing body. The programme features The Sun Also Rises, performed by Liu Yipeng; The Reason, performed by Liao Weiying; The Trial of a Practitioner, performed by Zhu Yixuan; and Moving in O₂ and CO₂, performed by Shen Fan and Wang Ruiyi. Through these works, the performers explore themes including accumulation and repetition, the redefinition of dancer identity at the intersection of ballet and contemporary dance, shifts in the body’s centre of gravity, and the relationship between rhythm, breath, and movement. The production culminates in One, bringing all five performers together in a group work that connects their individual explorations within a shared performance space.

Together, these five works move from one body to many possibilities, presenting the dancing body not as a fixed form, but as a site of inquiry, transformation, and artistic expression.
