Taste Okinawa: An Attempt to Understand Okinawa Through Food (Cooking Workshop + Screening)
Food is perhaps our most honest historical archive. Let’s explore the complex history of Okinawa through the sense of taste in this cooking workshop. Led by facilitators Leaf and Ngo, we will prepare iconic dishes like Taco Rice, Goya Champuru, and maybe Okinawa Soba together, and while unraveling the layers of post-war history, U.S. military influence, and Chinese Min cultural hybridization embedded within them.
Join us for an afternoon of hands-on cooking and sembang, followed by an outdoor film screening as we share a meal and reflect on the historical trajectories found on our plates!
- PS: Please be advised that this workshop uses ground beef, braised pork/Spam, eggs, dairy, and bonito flakes.
