Transit runs. Signs fade. Cities change. Works in Transit brings together years of collected transit signages from across the Klang Valley, alongside new wayfinding works that challenges the perception of what public transport can look like if they were designed for the people who actually use it.

About

Works in Transit: A Graphical Tapestry of Public Transport in Malaysia is a two-day pop-up exhibition of various wayfinding works curated by @ErnestOnPT, held from the 6th to 7th of June at SiberMerdeka, Pudu.

This exhibition brings together selected materials from two bodies. The first: collected bus stop signage, ageing route maps, and decommissioned wayfinding signs collected from across the Klang Valley over the past year, displayed as a portrait of a public system at a particular moment. The second: a series of distinct and original transit wayfinding works conceived by @ErnestOnPT that, when seen together, addresses a gap in communicating public transport information more legibly and humanely for everyday riders.

While admission to the gallery is free, we would welcome any contributions and donations in conjunction with SiberMerdeka's fundraiser, which is currently raising funds to secure a new space for the community. Additionally, there would also be a booth selling limited-run stickers made by @ErnestonPT and SiberMerdeka to support our work.

Join us for an opening reception hosted on the 6th of June from 16:00 to 20:00, free and open to all,  whether you take public transport every day or have never thought twice about a transit sign.

Bio:

Ernest Wong is a transport activist based in Kuala Lumpur and is fascinated by the means of how people and cities interact with each other. Motivated to see change in the face of indifference, they picked up graphic design as a self-taught practice to change the perspective of public transport by design. They also work with public transport operators and various government agencies to advance for a transit system that works better for everyone.
