About

Kuala Sine

A Cinematic Confluence / Titik Temu Sinematik

Kuala Lumpur is a vibrant confluence where the Gombak and Klang rivers merge, a metaphor for Malaysia's cinematic journey: a powerful alchemy of memory and tomorrow.

Rooted in this idea, Kuala Sine, co-presented by FINAS, brings together the raw energy of independent filmmaking and the landmark achievements of mainstream Malaysian cinema. This programme invites the community to reflect on our shared cinematic past while actively shaping the next chapter of our national story.

Through curated screenings and industry dialogues, the programme explores the evolution of Malaysian identity across two thematic arcs:

Week 1: The Gaze Redefined / Minggu 1: Membetulkan Pandangan

A tribute to the grit and vision of female storytellers who have fundamentally transformed the Malaysian lens / Sebuah penghormatan kepada darah, keringat dan air mata para pencerita wanita yang membawa gelombang baharu dalam Sinema Malaysia.

Rooted exclusively in Malaysian cinema, the programme traces stories of displacement, heritage, and reinvention - balancing nostalgic memory with bold visions of the future. Weaving between the screenings are discursive panels from directors to designers looking at the intersection of identity and heritage, and the creation of cinematic worlds.

Kuala Sine serves as a space for cultural dialogue and exchange, honouring the voices that define us while celebrating the enduring artistry of Malaysian film.
