About
About the Workshop
Bad Poets Society is a writing workshop designed for people who want to explore poetry without the expectation of performing or being “good” at it.
This session focuses on poetry as a practice, a way to notice, play, experiment, and make meaning. Through the process of a coffee cupping session, guided learning, quiet writing time, and group sharing, participants will be encouraged to write freely, imperfectly, and most importantly, honestly.
You don’t need prior writing experience. The emphasis is on process over polish, curiosity over correctness, and community over critique.
Bad is not a failure here, it’s the starting point.
What You’ll Do
- Participate in a coffee cupping session to tune into your senses
- Explore poetry forms: Haiku, sonnet and free verse to give structure to your story
- Write alongside others in a relaxed, supportive environment
- Share what you've worked on (in progress drafts highly encouraged)
This workshop welcomes both complete beginners and experienced writers looking to reconnect with the joy of writing.
Who This Is For
- People curious about poetry but unsure where to start
- Writers who want to practise without the pressure of performance
- Those who enjoy slowing down, noticing details, and working with story
Materials
All workshop materials will be provided.
Each participant will receive a Bad Poets Society workbook, which you’ll use during the session and take home with you. It’s designed to hold your messy drafts, half-formed thoughts, and experiments, a reminder that writing doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.

Production
Bad Poets Society is organised by Sacred Grounds, a year-long programme dedicated to bridging poetry to new worlds. Built on three pillars: Performance, Education, and Community. It creates spaces where poetry can be experienced, practised, and shared beyond the page. Grounded in the belief that poetry lives in people, not just on the page, Sacred Grounds invites seasoned practitioners, first-time writers, and curious audiences to gather, slow down, and reconnect with language as a shared practice.
