Meet The Presenter
Mary Wu comes from a musical family. Her parents were music educators, and her sisters, Enloc and Melody, are also musicians. She is an internationally acclaimed artist currently based in Hong Kong. Hailed by Ravel’s protégé, the late Vlado Perlemuter, as “one of the most gifted pianists of her generation” for her “musical variety, profundity, and sensitivity,” Mary Wu was also praised by the late Lord Yehudi Menuhin for having “a captivating poetical quality to her playing.” European critics have further commended her for “extraordinary artistic quality, absolute mastery of the keyboard, and magical virtuosity.”
Mary Wu performs frequently as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe and Asia. She has collaborated with distinguished artists including the late Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Vlado Perlemuter, Richard Stoltzman, Colin Carr, the Maggini Quartet, the Szymanowski Quartet, and Tasmin Little. She has worked with numerous major orchestras and has released several recordings on labels such as BMG, ASV, Dutton, and Universal. Her discography includes the Complete Piano Works of Maurice Ravel, Fantasias, Piano Classics, Chinese Contemporary Music, and the complete works of Ernest Reed and Arnold Bax for violin and piano, recorded with British violinist Robert Gibbs.
Her teachers include Constance Wu, Betty Drown, Peter Norris, Vlado Perlemuter, Louis Kentner, Edward Kendall-Taylor, Phyllis Sellick, and Gilbert Kalish.
Mary Wu has received numerous accolades, including First Prizes at the Royal Overseas League Competition in London and the Mozart Asian Bicentenary Competition, as well as the Best Artist of the Year Award from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
