About
Our Rights, Not Just Our Rites
A Talk on Land, Law, and the Fight for Orang Asli Survival🗓 Date: 14 SEPTEMBER 2025
🕰 Time: 10:00AM
📍 Venue: HARTA Space Ampang
The struggle for Orang Asli rights in Malaysia extends beyond cultural issues. It is a fight for land, dignity, and survival.
Join us for Our Rights, Not Just Our Rites, a critical discussion featuring Bah Tony and Dr. Colin Nicholas, exploring the Orang Asli’s enduring relationship with their ancestral lands. The session will highlight documented cases of land loss, systemic failures, and the growing threats posed by development projects. Through legal insight and lived experience, the speakers will unpack how land defence is not just about heritage, but about self-determination.
About the Speaker Dr. Colin Nicholas is the founder of the Centre for Orang Asli Concerns (COAC), a pioneering volunteer-run organisation working with the Orang Asli since 1989. He has served as expert witness in precedent-setting land rights cases, and as a consultant to the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) and the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP). A leading voice in indigenous advocacy, Dr. Colin has published extensively on Orang Asli identity, development, and law.
