About

About the Event

Step into the story of one of Southeast Asia’s most enduring garments at Kenangan Kebaya: Silhouettes of History, a special fashion showcase curated by renowned fashion archivist John Ang.

Tracing the evolution of the kebaya through the decades, the showcase brings together approximately 20 looks that explore how this iconic garment has evolved thorugh the centuries — from traditional silhouettes and historical influences to contemporary interpretations designed for modern life.

More than a fashion show, Kenangan Kebaya asks how we can preserve tradition without freezing it in time. As lifestyles, materials, tastes and identities change, so too does the way we dress. The evening celebrates the ability of traditional clothing to adapt, evolve and remain relevant while staying connected to its roots.

The runway will feature women who have made meaningful contributions to heritage preservation, cultural advocacy and environmental sustainability. By placing these women at the centre of the showcase, Kenangan Kebaya celebrates not only the garments themselves, but the people actively shaping and protecting Malaysia’s living heritage. Each model brings her own story, work and perspective to the runway — connecting the history of the kebaya with the women carrying Malaysian heritage forward today.

Join us for an evening celebrating fashion, memory and Malaysian heritage, and discover how a garment can carry generations of stories — while continuing to create new ones.
