Through wrestling with what we fear the most, we find our inner strength and our own beauty.
After tragedy strikes someone close to her, Gita leaves her hometown in China for Malaysia to search of herself. Haunted by the past, she finds solace in the embrace of a sisterhood who teach her how to fight. Gita’s screaming rage and unbearable pain are transformed into physical and spiritual power through the bonds of friendship and the ferocity of combat.
Exploring many meanings of “self-defence” for a modern-day woman grappling with external struggles, this is the 27th film commissioned by the Miu Miu Women’s Tales Project, an acclaimed short film series inviting female directors to investigate vanity and femininity in the 21st century.

Artist Bio
Tan Chui Mui
Tan Chui Mui is a Malaysian director and film producer, who debuted in 2006 with her feature Love Conquers All, winning numerous prizes at film festivals abroad. Her 2021 feature, Barbarian Invasion, a meditation on motherhood and identity, was nominated at the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival Golden Earl Awards. Her project Just Because You Pressed the Shutter? won the Jimei x Arles Discovery Award in 2022.
