Cast Biography

Penangite Prada Tan received her Bachelors Degree from University Tunku Abdul Rahman. She has appeared in several Short+Sweet Theatre competitions: 'Do You Have the Time' and 'The Setup' by Ida Suhaini and 'In My Mind' by Chen. She has also appeared in Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' and in Fa Abdul's 'Sex in Georgetown City', as well as the lead character in Penang Players' 'W;t'. Her other theatre experiences are 'The Glass Menagerie' and 'The View', both directed by Christopher Preslar.

Arunen, from Penang, is currently studying Acting and Directing at Universiti Sains Malaysia. His stage debut was in 'The Murder Game' with Penang Players. This led to him pursuing performing arts seriously. His other theatre forays include Deepak, a troubled character shaped by past trauma in 'Labyrinth of Souls', and Augustus Beausoleil in 'Phantom: The Musical'. Now, after two years, he is happy to be performing with Penang Players again, this time in a comedy, a genre he is excited to be in. This is a chance to show another side of himself on stage.

Garu Rumon claims to be the best comedian in Penang, but that’s largely because he also claims to be the only comedian in Penang. Garu started performing stand-up comedy in 2016 with 'Say It Like You Mean It', a George Town based mentorship programme. Since then, he has performed in numerous events in Penang, including the George Town Festival, the George Town Literature Festival, and the Butterworth Fringe Festival, and has worked with numerous veterans of the local comedy scene, including Kavin Jay, Gajen Nad, and Rizal Van Geyzel. Garu is a founding member and leader of Penang Comedy, Penang's first comedy group. On stage, Garu starred in 'A Plague Upon Your House' and in the Penang edition of 'Forkbeard'. Garu won the Festival Director’s Prize in Short+Sweet Comedy 2022 and Best Overall Performance and the Creative Excellence Award in Short+Sweet Comedy 2023. He has also written, directed, and starred in numerous Short+Sweet Theatre.

Darielle Baum is thrilled that 'Funny About Love' is her first production away from school. She has previously acted in various school productions and also performed monologues for LAMDA exams, where she did well and developed a better understanding of character work and stage presence. A childhood passion, acting has always been a love, and she adores uncovering new characters and stories through performance. Although this is her first community theatre foray, Darielle hopes to bring an earnest enthusiasm for storytelling with the role. She's often inspired by movies and shows, and adores strong screen performances, which influences her own creative work. This experience has been an insightful look at performing beyond the school stage. She is truly grateful to be a part of such an amazing cast and crew, and wishes that you enjoy the show as much as she has enjoyed being a part of it.
