The Frankie Sixes
The Frankie Sixes are a swing jazz band with some familiar faces from the Malaysian music scene. The band, a side project of veteran singer-songwriter Reza Salleh, started out playing for lindy hop dancers, a form of swing dancing from the 1940-50s. Reza is a regular face in the independent music scene, his debut album “Realize” topped radio charts the year of its release and has led him to performances in Korea, Japan, Thailand, Australia, Laos, Indonesia and Singapore. Reza is the main vocal of the band.
On keys is Ee Jeng, one of the most well known jazz musicians in the Malaysian jazz scene. In addition to playing most local jazz festivals in the country, internationally he’s played for the likes of Randy Bernsen, Laura Fygi and Indro Hardjodikoro among many others. He’s normally seen leading the 8 year old Ee Jeng Trio doing a repertoire of jazz originals or leading Funkatorie, a soul and funk act.
On double bass is Che Wan, who has played for some of the top jazz practitioners in the Malaysian music industry including Michael Veerapen, David Gomes, Patrick Tebrack, Junji Delfino and many more. Outside of jazz he has sessioned for the likes of Yuna, Guba and Tony Eusoff.
On drums we have KJ Wong, the hardest swinging cat in Malaysia, trained at the esteemed
Musicians Institute in Hollywood California. KJ has performed locally and internationally with lauded jazz acts such as the Julian Chan Jazz Orchestra, the David Gomes Group, and also the WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble.
Expect to hear the likes of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and a lil’ bit of Nat
“King” Cole thrown in for good measure, all for the love of swing jazz, music designed to make you dance. Be prepared to move your feet!
