Purnama -Jazzy Moonlight

“Purnama: Jazzy Moonlight Concert” brings together the many songs from across the universe about Moon, performed by the renowned WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble featuring Johorian singer Winnie Ho. 《满月：爵士月光音乐会》集合了许多来自古今中外有关月亮的曲子，由马来西亚首屈一指爵士乐队WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble 以及来自新山的歌手何芸妮演奏演唱。

Some of the songs that will be featured are 音乐会呈现的曲子包括: 月亮代表我的心(The Moon Represents My Heart)，城里的月光(Moonlight in the City)，月亮圆 (The Bright and Round Moon), Moon River, Gema Rembulan, Blue Moon, Clair de Lune, Moonlight Sonata, Moon and the City Light, Fly Me to the Moon, Terang Bulan 

Purnama, is a premiere of the latest album from the award-winning group WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble (Tay Cher Siang, AJ Popshuvit, Adriel Wong). For this special occasion, they are joined by renowned names: Tan Jie on bamboo flute, together with their partner: the wonderful Winnie Ho. 《满月》是获得多项艺术奖项的爵士乐队WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble （成员为郑泽相、Aj Popshuvit、 Adriel Wong）大受好评的专辑名称。在此次音乐会，我们也有竹笛、直萧以及尺八演奏家陈捷的参与，当然少不了美妙的金嗓子何芸妮。

With the full moon over the night sky, this concert would feature many well-known Moon songs (and other numbers) reimagined and rearranged with jazz and contemporary flavours. Celebrating the Full Moon together with loved ones with songs that transcends ages and locations. CAST 演出嘉宾——WVC

Formed in 2006, WVC is one of Southeast Asia’s leading contemporary jazz bands. The group has toured extensively in the region, recalling the spirit of being on the road – the lifestyle of touring jazz bands of old. Through these tours, WVC has brought their music to Malaysia, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Thailand and Macau.

WVC has released seven instrumental albums of original music: WVC TRiO (2008), Eleven (2009), In the Dark, I See Her (2011), Waiting for That Day (2014), Do Not Go Gently (2016) Give Thy Ear (2018) and Purnama (2021). These albums explore different musical genres, while maintaining the spirit of jazz as their core, and feature different line-up combinations. The band also experiments with transforming pop tunes, Chinese classics and mainstream music into new jazz rearrangements.

The present incarnation of WVC consists of bandleader/composer/arranger/music director/pianist Tay Cher Siang; bassist AJ; and drummer Adriel Wong. The band is one of the most active units on the Malaysian performance circuit and performs alongside many Malaysian and international artists, and is one of the most sought-after jazz bands in Malaysia for Hi-Fi recordings.

WVC continues to push musical boundaries, producing innovative, boundary-breaking projects including Shakespeare Jazz; Haruki Murakami and Jazz; the Shanghai Sisters; Modern Nanyang; and the pre-independence Malayan music project.WVC has received ten nominations at the prestigious Boh Cameronian Arts Awards for their concert “Waiting For That Day” at KLPac, and won three awards in 2016. Again in 2020, for their “If Music Be the Food of Love, Jazz On” project production, WVC won two awards in Best Instrumental Solo, and Best Original Compositions. The band also appeared briefly in the Hollywood film Crazy Rich Asians.

CAST 演出嘉宾——Winnie HO

WinnieHO 何芸妮, one of the top names in the international audiophile and Chinese jazz scene; is also an award-winning singer with over two decades of experience. Some of her accolades include “Best Vocal Performance Artiste 最佳演绎歌手” in the 2018 Malaysia PWH Music Award (娱协奖), winner of 2000 Astro Talent Quest (新秀大赛) & International Chinese Singing Competition (全球华人歌唱大赛).

Winnie has performed in various internal jazz festivals and Hi-Fi events. She has been heard performing in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. Her recording portfolio spans over eight concept albums - 《Finally》Chapter 01,《HE YUN NI》Chapter 02,《 Jazzy Sound Of Teresa Teng 靡靡之音》,《2v1g》etc. These albums are still popular on the Asian Hi-Fi billboard. Her live performances of this album repertoire have garnered much admiration from the media and audience.

Winnie is one of the founding members, music producer and vocal arranger of The Shang Sisters - a female vocal trio. The trio specializes in Nanyang Jazz and works in bringing the body of work to the international arena.
