About

If there were a stage where your story could be seen and heard—would you be willing to share it?

Playback Theatre is a unique form of improvisational theatre where performers listen to real stories from the audience and transform them instantly into live performance. There is no script, no pre-planning—every moment unfolds in real time, and every story belongs only to that moment.
Here, you are not just an audience member, but part of the performance. Through listening and enactment, we feel, respond, and discover connection and resonance within each other’s stories.
Many have wondered what Playback Theatre truly feels like—this is your chance to experience it for yourself. Presented by Onion Theatre in collaboration with klpac, this debut showcase invites you to be part of a one-of-a-kind live creation.

This performance is centred around the theme “Moments of Growing Up”—those seemingly small yet defining moments that quietly shape who we are today. Your story might just be someone else’s reflection

Whether you come to listen, or to share, we sincerely look forward to welcoming you.

Performed mainly in Mandarin. As an improvisational performance, other languages may also emerge naturally.

About Playback Theatre
Playback Theatre originated in the 1970s, created by American theatre practitioner Jonathan Fox together with his collaborator Jo Salas.
Jonathan Fox was inspired by the traditions of storytelling, ritual practices, and community interaction. He sought to create a theatre form where people could share real-life experiences and truly listen to one another. Thus, Playback Theatre was born—an art form centered on audience stories, brought to life through improvisational enactment.
Since its founding, Playback Theatre has grown into an international theatre practice, performed around the world and applied in fields ranging from artistic performances and education to community building and social dialogue. It continues to connect people through the shared power of storytelling and human understanding.
