Elements Chinese Orchestra proudly presents the 2025 concert “Ode to Strings,” featuring traditional Chinese string instruments.

Experience the timeless masterpiece “Butterfly Lovers” in this extraordinary performance! Huqin—a term that encompasses Chinese string instruments such as the renowned Erhu, Zhonghu, Gaohu, and many others—takes center stage as classical and innovative works blend to showcase its unique charm.

Renowned Erhu virtuoso Lim Chee Wei will captivate you with his rendition of “Butterfly Lovers.” The program also features a rarely performed solo Zhonghu concerto, a world premiere piece composed by Chan Hoi Phang, and numerous classic huqin ensemble works.

About the Company 

天地人和民族乐团成立于 2011 年。四位不同声部的指导老师――梁汉奎、林子维、王惠真和陈捷期盼着有朝一日能同
台演出,却因常年奔波于各自的教学与演出中而未能圆梦。为了实现愿望,四位老师们协议举办一场小型演奏会,并由梁
汉奎为各位量身定做一套曲目――《天》、《地》、《人》、《和》。在第一场演奏会结束后与黄鸿昌老师的鼓励下,大
家决定延续这本来只是个临时性的组合,并加以吸纳更多年轻本地乐手,以传承及发扬中华音乐为宗旨,“天地人和民族乐
团”也就此得名。至今,乐团已从最初的十多名团员,扩展至拥有约百名的团员。当前乐团日常排练事务由林子维和陈捷
负责带领。历年来各演奏会里的指挥们有梁汉奎、黄鸿昌、王惠真、陈海朋及王民忠。在丰富的指挥阵容下,乐团提供
了一个平台，让年轻乐手们在各类型的演奏会里磨练及发挥他们的演奏能力。天地人和民族乐团将持续举办各类型的
演奏会,并希望能够借此提升本地大众对华乐的认识和喜欢。
 

The Elements Chinese Orchestra was founded in the year 2011. The direct translation of the Orchestra’s Chinese
name - “Sky, Earth, Human, and Harmony” is collectively known as the elements bearing the meaning that the best
things happen at the right time, in the right place and with the right people. It was established by 4 music instructors –
Liang Han Kuei, Lim Chee Wei, Wong Wai Jan, and Tan Jie, who had longed to perform together. To achieve this
dream of theirs, the 4 music instructors decided to hold a small ensemble concert, performing original songs
composed by Liang Han Kuei himself, named after the 4 elements. Thereafter, under the encouragement of Wong
Hong Cheong, the group expanded to include young and upcoming musicians to encourage and promote Traditional
Chinese Music. As of to date, the ensemble has grown from 10 odd members to approximately 100 musicians. The
Orchestra’s day-to-day practice sessions are led by Lim Chee Wei and Tan Jie. The conductors from its past
concerts include Leong Han Kuei, Wong Hong Cheong, Wong Wai Jan, Chan Hoi Phang and Ong Meng Chung.
Under the watchful eyes of these skillful conductors, the Orchestra has continually reached new heights and takes
pride in being a platform which inspires music enthusiasts to be continuously driven by their passion and that upholds
the standards of their music repertoire. The Elements Chinese Orchestra envisions to continue sharing, inspiring,
and bringing music to more people in the community, locally and beyond.
