Conductor David Chin is the founder and Artistic Director of Bachfest Malaysia and a Senior Fellow of Bach-Archiv Leipzig. In addition to his home country Malaysia and the United States, David has been invited to teach and perform in Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, and Italy. David has conducted all the major works by J.S. Bach and more than three dozens of his cantatas. He has also led choirs and orchestras around the world in numerous major works by composers ranging from the Renaissance era to the 21st century and world-premieres, a capella to choral-orchestral works, and standard repertoire to vocal jazz and Broadway musicals. Recently, he has translated Maul’s latest Bach Pictorial Biography, the Bach database website jsbach.de, and produced Encountering Bach, a documentary filmed in Germany. David holds Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Conducting from the Eastman School of Music in New York.  

指揮家陳子虔是馬來西亞巴赫節的創辦人與藝術總監以及德國萊比錫檔案館的資深院士。除了活躍於祖國馬來西亞與北美洲，陳氏也經常被邀請到不同的國家指揮與執教，足跡遍布新加坡、印尼、越南、香港、泰國、紐西蘭、加拿大、德國與意大利。他近年指揮了巴赫所有的大型作品以及將近40部的清唱劇。此外，還有從文藝復興時期到二十一世紀多位作曲家的作品，其中包括無伴奏合唱、神劇、彌撒曲、交響曲以及室內樂等，曲風涵蓋經典作品以及爵士音樂與百老匯。陳氏近期翻譯了茂爾的《巴赫圖文傳記》以及萊比錫巴赫檔案館的龐大的巴赫網站，同時也在德國拍攝了《追踪巴赫》紀錄影片。他榮獲芥菜種基金頒為榮譽會員，亦榮獲美國紐約伊斯曼音樂學院所頒發的全額獎學金順利完成指揮碩士與博士學位。

David Chin

Okawa Tan, a native from Bintulu Sarawak, graduated from Eastman School of Music with his Masters in Choral Conducting. After moving back to his hometown in Nov 2019, he has been actively providing choral trainings for local church choirs. Okawa received his B.M. in Vocal Performance from Liberty University in 2017. He has been teaching voice lessons to students in the genres of classical, musical theater, and pop singing. Okawa enjoys singing in concert settings, either as a choral member or a soloist. He has been an active member of Bachfest Malaysia since 2015.

馬來西亞藉男高音陳大川出生於砂拉越民都魯。自幼受父親對古典音樂的喜愛和對教會合唱音樂的熱忱影響的他，目前剛畢業于美國紐約州的伊斯曼音樂學院之合唱指揮碩士學位，師從Dr. William Weinert。陳氏除了活躍於為個人、合唱團及教會詩班提供聲樂及合唱訓練，他也數次受邀於國際基督教指揮團所辦的營會中擔任聲樂導師和指揮班指導。
自2015年開始，陳氏便開始受邀參與東馬巴赫慶典合唱團以及馬來西亞巴赫節的各個音樂會，在當中擔任獨唱及合唱團員。

MALAYSIA BACH FESTIVAL SINGERS & ORCHESTRA
The Malaysia Bach Festival Singers and Orchestra was founded by its Artistic Director David Chin in 2015 with the premiere performance of St. John Passion in Malaysia. Since then, they have performed Mass in B minor, St. Matthew Passion, numerous cantatas, motets, and instrumental works by J.S. Bach, and appeared in major cities throughout Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur, Muar, George Town, Sibu, Bintulu, and Kota Kinabalu. Their performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion was awarded "Best of 2019" and "Best Choral Ensemble Performance" for the 17th  BOH Cameronian Arts Awards in 2020. In 2019, their performance of Bach's "Prelude" from Orchestral Suite in C was awarded "Best Ensemble Performance", and David Chin's performance of Bach's Harpsichord Concerto in D major received "Best Solo Instrumental Performance" for the 16th BOH Cameronian Art Awards. In addition, the Malaysia Bach Festival Singers and Orchestra have performed choral works by composers such as Byrd, Victoria, Mozart, Vaughan Williams, and Dan Forrest, among others, and also commissioned a new work by Malaysian composer. They have been invited to perform multiple chorale cantatas at the St. Thomas Church during Bachfest Leipzig 2024.

馬來西亞巴赫慶典合唱與管弦樂團於2015年由陳子虔博士創立。首場音樂會是由馬來西亞巴赫慶典合唱與管弦樂團呈獻，在本國首演巴赫的《聖約翰受難曲》。此後，他們演出了巴赫的《B小調彌撒曲》、《聖馬太受難曲》以及多部清唱劇、經文歌和器樂作品。他們的表演足跡遍布全國，其中包括吉隆坡、麻坡、檳城、砂拉越詩巫、民都魯以及沙巴亞庇。馬來西亞巴赫慶典合唱與管弦樂團所演出的《聖馬太受難曲》榮獲第十七屆寶樂金馬倫藝術獎的“2019最佳演出”以及“最佳合唱演出”兩個獎項。此外，他們也以巴赫《C大調管弦樂組曲》中的序曲以及陳子虔博士獨奏的巴赫《D大調大鍵琴協奏曲》分別贏得第十六屆寶樂金馬倫藝術獎的“最佳器樂合奏獎”以及“最佳器樂獨奏獎”。此外，馬來西亞慶典合唱與管弦樂團演出了古今多位作曲家的作品，也委託馬來西亞作曲家創作一部新作品。他們被邀請於2024年到德國萊比錫巴赫節上在聖多馬教堂中呈獻數首巴赫的清唱劇。

Out of the Depths is the first post-lockdown concert of Bachfest Malaysia, featuring two incredibly moving Bach cantatas, performed by the award-winning Malaysia Bach Festival Singers and Orchestra. Renowned Bach scholar Prof. Dr. Michael Maul will be joining Bachfest Malaysia on this special concert tour to provide pre-concert lectures. The concert tour is also the official book launch for Maul&rsquo;s Chinese/English version of Bach Pictorial Biography.<br />

&ldquo;夜盡天明&rdquo;是馬來西亞巴赫節在疫情封鎖解放後的第一場音樂會，節目包括兩部感人的巴赫清唱劇，由馬來西亞巴赫慶典合唱與管弦樂團呈獻。德國著名巴赫學者米歇爾&middot;茂爾教授博士將參與這次的巡迴講座音樂會為觀眾導聆。這次巡演也是茂爾博士全新中英版《巴赫圖文傳記》正式的新書推介禮。
