A Conversation with The Artist & The Collector

Between the artist and the collector, there is a retrospective. Join in the conversation between Ahmad Zakii Anwar and Dr Steve Wong of the Steve Wong Art Collection as they seek to unfold layers of artistic and collecting encounters behind Sementara and beyond — a long-sustained relationship traceable to the height of the 1990s Malaysian art scene.

Ahmad Zakii Anwar’s foray into art close to four decades ago fatefully converged with Dr Steve Wong’s earlier episodes in art collecting. Timely as it was intuitive, the dense mystery of Zakii’s ‘Smokers’ series, debuting circa 1995, would form for Dr Steve the initial spark that has since drawn the collector’s eye to the artist’s allure.

The conversation will be moderated by independent curator, Syed Muhammad Hafiz.
