Music for Land

A fundraising music performance by two young brother and sister.

Two young Malaysian musicians, Gulda De Xuan Tan (Erhu) and Tan Yijing (Dizi), have come together on their own initiative to present this special performance in support of Fund a Land.

Having honed their artistry in Taiwan and distinguished themselves with exceptional musical achievements, they return home for a brief visit, bringing with them not only their music, but also their hearts. Through the timeless voices of the erhu and dizi, they hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the land that nourishes us all.

50% of all admission proceeds will be contributed to the Fund a Land initiative—a community crowdfunding effort to secure the future of GK Organic Farm, a 30-year pioneer of organic farming in Malaysia.

Gulda De Xuan Tan 陈德轩

Erhu 二胡

Originally from Malaysia, Gulda now lives in Taiwan, where he began learning the erhu at the age of ten through his school's Chinese orchestra. His musical journey has taken him from youth ensembles to performing alongside adult orchestras, including appearances at Taiwan's prestigious National Concert Hall. Along the way, he has received recognition in numerous competitions and performances.

In recent years, Gulda has devoted himself to refining his artistry through intensive solo study under the guidance of various teachers. While the path has been demanding, it has deepened both his musical expression and his appreciation for the lifelong pursuit of music.

Tan Yijing 陈怡静

Dizi 笛子

Tan Yijing is a 16-year-old dizi player currently studying in Taiwan. She first chose the Chinese bamboo flute simply because it was light and easy to carry. Over time, however, she discovered that the Chinese character 笛 (dizi) shares its pronunciation with 涤, meaning to cleanse. Realising that music has the power to cleanse and uplift the heart gave her playing a deeper sense of purpose.

Though the journey has brought its share of challenges, Yijing believes that music flourishes through sincerity, perseverance, and the right mindset. Each performance is her way of sharing not only melodies, but also peace and hope with others.
