Turn Up & Sing - WELCOME TO THE BLACK PARADE

No auditions. No judgement. No commitment. Just the joy of singing together…

The Sound Collective's Turn Up & Sing series provides an interactive & immersive experience where people come together from all walks of life to sing together and experience the celebration of song and the connective power of singing in harmony. Our Turn Up & Sing sessions provide the opportunity to build community, make some new friends, release stress, and have fun as we raise our powerfully diverse voices as one.

It's as simple as that - it's the joy of creating something bigger than ourselves in a room full of beautiful people!

For each session, we pick a single piece of music to rehearse and sing our hearts out to. In our time together, we will:

• Engage in some fun vocal warmups
• Work through the piece in sections
• Explore the lyrics, mood and emotions of the song
• Shape some key musical moments
• Sing sing sing!

Whether you're a superstar, chorister, shower singer or have never sung in a group before, you are welcome here - all experience levels are valued in The Sound Collective.

OUR SONG FOR THE SESSION: "WELCOME TO THE BLACK PARADE"

Released in 2006, Welcome to the Black Parade became the the emo anthem of all time. At its heart, it's a song about mortality, resilience, and the legacy we leave behind. The song confronts the reality that life is difficult, that loss is inevitable, and that we cannot always control what happens to us. But it also carries a powerful message: even in our darkest moments, we can find the strength to carry on, and the courage to stand for something bigger than ourselves.

20 years later, that message feels especially relevant. In a world marked by uncertainty, division, and overwhelming pressure, Welcome to the Black Parade reminds us of the importance of hope, solidarity and asks us to think beyond our own struggles... what does it mean to stand with those who are hurting, to defend those who have been pushed aside, and to keep showing up for one another?

This session, we're bringing hundreds of voices together to give that message a new life, through the simple but powerful act of singing together. So, "will you be the saviour of the broken, the beaten and the damned?' 🖤

SOMETHING A LITTLE SPECIAL THIS TIME ROUND..

After we've belted out WELCOME TO THE BLACK PARADE together, we're turning up the volume for THE ULTIMATE EMO ROCK ZONE! Get ready to scream your lungs out, headbang, and relive your emo and pop-punk glory days as our house band, SOUND STORM, takes over with a live set packed with the punk anthems you know and love.  We're bringing you tunes by My Chemical Romance, Blink 182, Avril Lavigne, All Time Low, Wheatus, Evanescence, Green Day, Panic! At The Disco, Bring Me The Horizon, and more... ;)  

LEARNING THE MUSIC

Sheet music and audio references will be sent to you via email a week before the event. Our collective goal is to listen to the audio references ahead of time so that we come into the session with some familiarity. This way we can spend our time together really diving into the richness of music making, rather than trying to learn the key melodies from scratch. You don't need to know our parts by heart by any means, but the stronger you are in our parts coming in, the more we'll be able to really dig into the fun stuff! Physical copies of the sheet music will be given out on the day itself.

DRESS CODE

Emo vibes all the way. Your favourite band tee, that old grungy top, checkered prints, ripped jeans, Converse, chains, black eyeliner... you know the drill. Whether it's a cozy hoodie or your most dramatic goth look, go as hard or as casual as you like. Come as you are!
