About

Theatre for Seniors by Andy Cranshaw

It’s never too late to discover the joy of performing. Whether you’ve always wanted to try acting, are returning to the stage after many years, or are simply looking for a fun and rewarding new experience, Theatre For Seniors offers a welcoming introduction to theatre in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Designed specifically for adults aged 50 and above, the programme encourages participants to explore their creativity while building confidence, communication skills and self-expression. No previous acting experience is required—just curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to take part. Activities are tailored to suit a range of abilities, with participants encouraged to work at their own pace.

Across eight twice weekly sessions, we shall learn the fundamental principles of acting through a variety of practical exercises, theatre games, improvisation, voice work, movement and character development. You will discover how actors use observation, imagination, listening and being present in each moment on the stage to bring characters to life from the inside out. Along the way, you will develop greater confidence in speaking and performing in front of others while enjoying the social benefits of working as part of an ensemble.

As the course progresses, you will apply these newly acquired skills to rehearsing a short, scripted scene with one or perhaps two other actors, learning the basics of rehearsal techniques, stagecraft and performance. The emphasis throughout is on collaboration, enjoyment and supporting one another in a positive, encouraging atmosphere.

The course culminates in an informal showcase performance where participants will present their work to an invited audience of family and friends. More than simply learning how to act, this course celebrates creativity, connection and the confidence that comes from trying something new. It is an opportunity to make new friends, share stories, challenge yourself and experience the unique excitement of live theatre, regardless of age or previous experience.
