About

Spill the Ink! explores memory, power and the future of storytelling in Malaysia. Featuring the launch of new regional literary magazine Yellow, the republication of one of the earliest Malay novels, a poetry collection rooted in myth and feminine power, and a conversation on how digital platforms are reshaping reading culture — this is what literature looks like when it refuses to stand still.

Session by/Sesi oleh IMAN Publication

Literature is often seen as something serious, intellectual, even exclusive. Yet if literature truly aims to shape society, it must also be something that can be read, felt, and approached by a wider audience. And today, social media is no longer just a place to promote books, it has become a key space where talent as well as stories are discovered, discussed and shaped by readers. Platforms like Wattpad, TikTok, Threads, along with apps like local short story app CEREKA, and online reader communities are changing how stories are written, how new writers gain visibility, how books become popular and what stories get read.

As algorithms and online communities increasingly influence and shape what gets read and celebrated, this panel asks: Are these platforms creating and shaping a new literary canon? Are they expanding access to literature — or introducing new pressures for writers? Can writers and publishers make reading more accessible without sacrificing the depth of ideas?

Join us as we explore how digital spaces are reshaping reading culture and the future of literature.
