About

HIKAYAT STORYTELLING FEST

A Celebration of Hikayat & Cultural Heritage

Concept & Theme

Hikayat and Cultural Heritage take centre stage in this special storytelling series organised by the Hikayat Storyteller Guild. Rooted in Malaysia’s rich oral traditions, the festival is dedicated to reviving and reintroducing classical legends and folklore to contemporary audiences, instilling pride, love, and deeper appreciation for our local lore.

Story & Background

The Hikayat Storyteller Guild, under Hikayat Fandom, was founded to preserve and reactivate the living tradition of oral storytelling. In an age dominated by digital narratives, the Guild champions the timeless power of voice, memory, and performance. Through the retelling of ancient legends, the Guild nurtures cultural literacy and reconnects communities to the wisdom and imagination of our ancestors.

Key Highlights & Unique Features

Each session features one storyteller bringing to life tales inspired by the great narrative traditions of Makyung, Mek Mulung, Wayang Kulit, and classical hikayat. Audiences will encounter legendary heroes, mystical beings, courtly dramas, and epic adventures, stories once performed in royal courts and village grounds, now reimagined for modern listeners.

Expect rich narration, expressive performance, craft time and a magical journey into the old world.
