About

This programme will introduce Tenun Carik as a sustainable weaving method. Participants will learn the many ways discarded textiles can be processed to be turned into weaveable yarns. By using different colours, textures and fabric types, participants will weave them into a unique piece that can be brought back home.

Led by Dr. Norwani Md. Nawawi, a prominent practitioner and researcher on Ikat Limar, learn how weaving and motifs plays a part in our heritage and what techniques we can carry forward in our practice.

Participants will be able to use our collection of fabrics and fibers and learn how to process them via strip cutting or spinning. Each participants will be able to use a frame loom, learn how to set it up and to start weaving their pieces from a selection of motifs to choose from.

While the programme runs between 10am - 5pm, participants are allowed to use as much or little time they'll need to complete their woven piece.
