About
RIUH Gallery: Suara Belacu
Welcome to RIUH Gallery: Suara Belacu. Translating to 'Voice of the Canvas,' this exhibition invites you to explore the rich and diverse tapestry of Malaysian and ASEAN identity through the perspectives of 39 contemporary artists. The exhibition unfolds as a journey through two distinct yet interconnected spaces, each offering a unique way to experience the theme.
The Gallery Corridors: A Chorus of Individual Voices
Your experience begins in the corridors of Odeon KL, which have been transformed into a focused, contemplative gallery space across two floors. Here, you will encounter a vibrant collection of paintings and mixed-media works. Each piece represents a unique Suara—an individual voice and a distinct perspective on heritage, culture, and the future. This intimate setting allows for a personal engagement with each artist's vision, creating a powerful chorus of individual narratives.
The Main Hall: A Collective, Immersive Soul
From the corridors, you are invited to step into the immersive heart of the main hall. Here, iwaz of Harum Kasturi Studio presents TIANG SERI, a large-scale, live audio-light installation that occupies the entire cinema hall. In traditional Malay architecture, the 'Tiang Seri' is the central pillar, the structural and spiritual core of a home. This installation reinterprets that concept, creating a communal, multi-sensory space that serves as a conduit between the physical and the ethereal, the individual and the collective.
Visitor Advisory
For your safety and comfort, please be aware that the installation in the main hall features:
- Loud Sounds
- Haze and Smoke Effects
- Intense and Flashing Lights that may affect visitors with photosensitive epilepsy.
Together, these two experiences create a powerful dialogue. The corridors present the diverse, individual stories that shape our identity, while the main hall offers a shared, unifying experience that speaks to a collective soul. We invite you to listen to these voices and find your own place within this grand tapestry.
