Melaka Classics welcomes Portuguese pianist Bernardo Santos back to Melaka!

Portuguese pianist Bernardo Santos has been performing widely in recital, with orchestra and as a chamber musician, with performances ranging over 20 countries in venues such the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Palau de la Musica Catalana and Teatro Liceo, National Concert Hall, Sala São Paulo, Teatro Degollado, Casa da Música, Convento São Francisco, among many others, being regularly invited to festivals all over Europe, South America and Asia.

This year, Bernardo brings a varied program of piano works from composers spanning Europe to the New World, with works by Beethoven, Liszt, Fragoso, Villa-Lobos, and Copland. Featuring bold works such as the four evocative miniatures by António Fragoso, celebrating Santos's Portuguese heritage. These gems-ranging from the playful Valsa Ingenua to the restless energy of Inquietude-offer a rare glimpse into early 20th-century Portuguese piano music, brought to life with warmth and nuance.

Villa-Lobos’s vibrant Bachianas no. 4, where Brazilian rhythms and Bach-inspired melodies intertwine in a suite brimming with lyricism and dance.
