The Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara (JKKN) has launched a comprehensive Digital Portal, a significant step in preserving, developing, and disseminating Malaysia's rich arts, culture, and heritage in line with national digitisation aspirations.
Key Functions of the JKKN Digital Portal:
The portal comprises two main components, designed to serve the needs of the public, researchers, artists, and the creative industry:
Portal Pemetaan Budaya (Culture Mapping Portal)
Launched in 2015, this dynamic database is your gateway to Malaysia’s arts, culture, and heritage.
Diverse Content: Access a wide range of resources—academic articles, documentary photos, performance videos, and ethnographic insights—all available for free.
Explore the Depth: Delve into 535 articles on topics like traditional games, martial arts, colorful attire, performing arts, and unique cultural practices.
Visual Heritage: Browse through 2,683 striking photos and 194 performance videos, each capturing the essence of Malaysia’s cultural legacy.
Growing Impact: With over 4.74 million visits since its launch, this portal is quickly becoming the go-to digital hub for anyone passionate about Malaysian arts and culture.
Portal Rumah Seni JKKN (JKKN Art House Portal)
Launched in 2022, the Portal Rumah Seni JKKN is a comprehensive database system designed for the arts and culture industry. It offers a wide range of information and services to industry professionals.
Profile Registration: Artists, groups, associations, and registered art companies can create profiles in a directory that spans 13 categories, including Dance, Theatre, Music, Stage Management, and Traditional Games.
Promotional Spaces: The portal provides dedicated spaces for JKKN-produced promotional videos and allows artists and cultural organisations to promote their programmes.
Digital Ticketing Services: In partnership with CloudJoi, the portal offers digital ticketing solutions for a variety of events.
Art Incentive Application: Arts and culture NGOs can apply online for art incentives through the portal.
Youth Volunteer Programme: Young people interested in the arts can apply to join the JKKN Culture Squad.
As of 30 June 2025, the portal has recorded 29,739 visitors in 2024 and 25,826 visitors in 2025, with a total of 1,098 registered profiles.
