Synopsis
MSFF is the first ever virtual Malaysian Student Film Festival scheduled for a livestream showcase in June 2021. For the past years, many Malaysian student societies in universities all over the UK (and Ireland) have participated in Malaysian Night, a theatrical production celebrating traditional cultural art forms such as dance and music. This year, students will have the chance to showcase 15 - 40 minute films in our virtual event. Varying awards judged by external experts in the film and theatre industry will be celebrated on the last day of the festival. It is MSFF’s hope to not only give students a chance to translate traditional MNights into a different medium, but also to let these films be a portfolio of well-made student films relating to Malaysian culture.

Rasa Sayang
by Lancaster University Malaysian Student Society
Genre: Comedy, Mockumentary
Logline: Nothing stands in the way of Malaysian spirit, not even a pandemic.
'Rasa Sayang' is a witty mockumentary short film based on the real struggles of Malaysian societies with planning for social events during a pandemic. The story surrounds the Lancaster University Malaysian Society, in particular a documentary crew follows the president, Danial Bahran, and his committee members as they plan their first ever in-person traditional Malaysian Night. Experience the laughs and tears of desperation and happiness as they overcome many obstacles from low morale to *possible* food poisoning as they each learn how to trust and work with one another as a team and embodying the true Malaysian spirit.
