About Janet Lee

Janet Lee, a consummate singer, performer, and style icon from Taiping, Malaysia, celebrates two decades of musical brilliance this August 2025. Her career spans grand operas and musicals as well as intimate recitals and concerts, proving no stage is too big or too small for her.

Widely acclaimed as Malaysia’s Queen of Shanghai Jazz, Janet’s diverse repertoire seamlessly blends mid-century Mandarin pop, classic American songbook tunes, and old-Malaya melodies. Her classical training under esteemed mentors like Cha Seng Tiang, Cecilia Yap, and Wong Kooi Lan laid the foundation for a career defined by technical finesse and heartfelt expression.

Since 2008, Janet has worked closely with renowned jazz pianist and composer Tay Cher Siang on a variety of projects. As the founding member of The Shang Sisters—a multilingual vocal trio dedicated to championing Nanyang Jazz—she continuously pushes creative boundaries while connecting deeply with her audiences.

Her solo career shines with three acclaimed albums: Restless Heart (2015), Cinnabar Rouge (2017), and Tea for Two (2023). Sell-out shows at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre following her first two albums highlight her magnetic stage presence. Cinnabar Rouge was even nominated for Best Popular Evergreen Album and earned Best Album Cover Design at the 2018 Malaysia PWH Music Award. The ongoing tour for Tea for Two is extending her musical reach both nationally and abroad.

Janet Lee’s passion for live performance transforms every show into an intimate, unforgettable experience.
